8 Greatest 30-Somethings In World Football Right Now

Like a fine wine, they seem to get better with age......

There can be a lot of ageism in football these days, with some players being immediately written off as soon as they hit the so-called very much not magical age of 30. Every little error they make is more scrutinized than when they were in their youth, and they often have to perform to perfection in order to gain as much acclaim as their younger teammates. The truth is, some of the world's greatest players currently are in the latter part of their careers, and it does seem as though some stars are hitting their prime later these days. Cristiano Ronaldo is just a few months short of his 30th birthday, for example, and he is as good as he's ever been. This list looks at the eight players who stand out among the older generation of superstars at the moment, remaining hugely influential to their respective sides and performing brilliantly week in, week out. There are some who are unfortunate to miss the cut, including Xavi, John Terry, Yaya Toure and Thiago Silva, but it remains a formidable-looking group of players. There are creative maestros, flying wingers and world-class striker all included, as we pay respect to the greatest 'oldies' in world football at the moment.
