Arsenal To Sign European U21 Championships Star

William Carvalho helped his team get to the final of the competition this summer.

Arsenal are in poll position to sign Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho for nearby £20 million, according to the Daily Star.

The Portuguese anchorman has reportedly become Arsene Wenger's top transfer target as he looks to add further strength to his relatively nimble midfield.

The Daily Star says Arsenal are €˜likely€™ to complete a deal to sign the 23-year-old this summer after they missed out on Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin who is reportedly signing for Manchester United this week for around £20 million.

Wenger was reported to have made a huge bid for the player a month ago, while Manchester United were also keen to secure the players signature.

Carvalho narrowly missed out on a U21 European Championships winner medal yesterday as Portugal were beaten by Sweden on penalties in the final.

During the tournament the Sporting Lisbon midfielder was watched by a host of top sides during the tournament and they can't of not been impressed.

The defensive midfielder who has been likened to Manchester City's Yaya Toure provides cover for the back four as well as effortless control and composure. He has played more passes than anyone else during the tournament in the Czech Republic.
