Arsenal are set to join local rivals Chelsea and Tottenham in making big money bids for Fiorentina’s highly-rated Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic, who caught the eye last season for La Viola with 14 goals in 27 Serie A appearances.
According to the Daily Express, Arsene Wenger has identified the player – who was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea last week – as the ideal replacement for Robin Van Persie who expressed his refusal to sign a new deal at the Emirates in a tumultuous 7 days for the North London side last week.
Arsenal will need to move for the Montenegrin soon, with cash-rich Paris St-Germain and Manchester City interested, as well as European giants Juventus and Barcelona likely to seriously consider shelling out the necessary £25million or so for Robin van Persie, and any move leaving a huge hole in the Arsenal squad.
And with Jovetic said to have a £25m release clause in his Fiorentina contract, he might be the ideal solution to the problem, with zero capital outlay needed to secure his signature when Van Persie moves on. He will however face competition from Spurs, who are likely to have as much as £30m to spend from Luka Modric’s expected move, and Chelsea, for whom money remains a lesser concern.
Wenger continues to attract criticism for a perceived unwillingness to spend money, but has proved in the last two windows that if players are available for the right price he will invest (even if some of those signings proved to be disappointing). He has apparently made Jovetic his number one replacement for Van Persie, with Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski believed to be next on the list.
Arsenal have already added Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to the squad, but Jovetic is as comfortable supporting the front-line from a deeper lying role as he is playing as a striker, so he would offer different options. And with four disappointing strikers currently on the books in the shape of , Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh, Carlos Vela and Park-Chu Young, the squad’s depth is not what it could be.

For strength in depth with good price tags, buy Lewandowski, demba ba and Dempsey, those are2 players that have performed well in English football, and one player who’s scored heavily in a very demanding league, I would hate to see us buy jovetic and have a similar start to last season because our entire front line has to adjust to English football, we need at least one goal scorer that can do it from the off
god , some fans relly are in dream land , lewandowski ,demba ba , clint dempsey. Plus giroud , podolski , walcot, gervinho . There are other poisions on the pitch that require players
Coach is not serious we need a guy like tevez
He will be a good buy and replacement for RVP
it’ll be bad if arsenal allow pvp to go. they should do all within their power to keep him as this would affect other players and the club
Jevotic is a better replacement 4 Rvp
Please arsene wenger we need to keep V persie at arsenal for a loon time if it is posible.
No one is bigger than club others have gone
no loyalty in todays game one and bit seasons
he’s given us sick rest of time
my view robin stick on your
gay trousers. and fcuk off
Arsenal should try all there best to keep R V P because he is a long term player in the club and he understand the club very well so arsenal need to keep is star player now not to sell them like cese narsi and others let buy new star join the squard. Arsenal need mature player that is already be well establise
van persie has one good season then chooses to abandon the club who has stood by him for many injury hit long seasons.
let him go to city or whoever he will probably end up on the bench anyway
wonder if they will stick by him when his ravaged with injury again? don’t think so
it will be his biggest mistake
ok arsenal have not won anything for 7 yes but have come close many times and have always finished in top 4 with spending alot less than other teams above them.
is van persie going for money? i think so. he didnt moan about not winning anything when he was out injured most of the time but he has one good season….
personally i think they should let him go as he obviously not committed to the club and wants to go.
wenger should use the money and more in replacing him with top quality player and not some retired teenager and it won’t be bad for arsenal if wenger buys a couple of quality defenders too.
RVP one prolific season out of eight fortunately for him it was the last season if it was 2 or 3 seasons ago he would value less than ten million ($)now
If Jovetic will perform like RVP then may I appeal to A.W. and the arsenal board to move fast for him as time is running.I am also happy that A.W has got sleepless nights to fulfil his mandate.Keep on moving the fans are solidly behind you.
jovetic is an ideal replacement 4 persie
Arsene W. and Arsenal board are not serious, Bentener was meant to replace Hanry, Charmarc came in for Adebayuo, non of them make an impart why can’t A.w learn a but lesson to get Bemba ba, papsi, of NEWCASTLE, TEVEZ,OR DEAMPSY, This season is going to be more harder than last season.Newcastle, Tothenham,LIVERPOL,Chelsea, MAN U, MAN CITY, UP for champions L. SO ARSENAL BOARD HAVE TO WAKE UP, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. Tothenham is spending heavily, the board need fresh ideas, for Arsenal.
Should vpersie insist to leave then. Lewandowski is the man to fit the possition. But i know vpersie will not leave us.
