Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger CONFIRMS Interest In Wayne Rooney Signing

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is interested in signing Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, according to Teamtalk.

Rooney, 27, who scored perhaps his best goal of the past 12 months in England's 2-2 draw with Brazil last night, is unsettled at Old Trafford and his future is shrouded in doubt. Before leaving as manager last month, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Rooney had asked for a transfer away from the Red Devils and it has put the whole of Europe on alert to his possible availability, though United insist he isn't for sale.

For Wenger, who last year lost his star striker Robin Van Persie to the lure of subsequent Premier League Champions Manchester United, a potential move for Rooney would be a no-brainer as he admitted to Al Jazerra that no club would turn down the chance to sign such an accomplished forward and that he is keeping his eye on the situation.

He said;
"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?" "David Moyes' first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney. If that is feasible or not depends on his personality and if Rooney bears a grudge or not, we will see. "It will be interesting to see how that will be handled."
Wenger also discussed the future of his former captain Cesc Fabregas, who recently has become linked with a move back to the Premier League and specifically Manchester United. Wenger revealed that a lack of confidence from not playing every week could be hurting the Spanish midfielder at Barcelona;
"I think at the moment he's lacking the confidence of being a regular player," added Wenger. "Recently he has not been that. "Cesc is such a passionate player, a player of such quality, that it must hurt him not to play in every single game. That's what he misses. When you come in and out you never play with full confidence."
For long-suffering Gunners fans, Wenger even discussing the futures of the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Wayne Rooney must be music to the ears for those who have criticsed their club for a lack of expenditure and trophies over recent years. Has Wenger opened the door for both global superstars to be wearing an Arsenal shirt next season? Do discuss below...
