Arsene Wenger has seemingly been handed a double header of good news in his quest to add more players to his Arsenal squad, after two midfield targets were apparently made available for transfer (at the right price) by their clubs. Having seen the long-expected deal for Sami Khedira hit the brakes at apparently the final hurdle, Wenger has been handed a boost that he could actually get his man, despite the German World Cup winner's desire for upwards of £150,000 a week. At that price, he would become the highest earner at the club - dwarfing the wages paid out to newest star signings Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, and the club's stoic refusal to over-pay looked to have killed the deal dead. But now, according to reports in Spain from Marca (via the Mirror) Real Madrid have expressed their readiness to sell the player this summer, though the caveat that Bayern Munich have emerged as new suitors for the World Cup winner is a considerable one. The boost for Wenger comes with the news that Bayern want Khedira on a free next summer, and are effectively forcing Madrid's hand to sell, rather than face missing out on a potential fee of around £20m. Clearly some work needs to be done either in convincing Khedira to drop his wage demands - which will be unlikely if he knows he has more than one bidder at the table - or in convincing the board that the player is worth his astronomical wage demands. Frankly, he is, and SkyBet have cut their odds to 1/2 that he will join Arsenal before the transfer window closes. Additionally, there's news from Portuguese newspaper Record that highly-rated defensive midfielder William Carvalho could be heading for North London after he was made available by Sporting Lisbon, bringing a potential end to Arsene Wenger's 18 month love affair with the player. He's got a significant release clause of £35m in his contract, but Sporting are pressed for cash and might be persuaded to accept lower if Wenger gets his canny business hat on. If both players can be brought in, the Gunners midfield would be an entirely different prospect to last season, when injuries to key players - notable Aaron Ramsey - in the second half of the season meant a dramatic drop in form. But it's likely personnel would need to be moved on, and Santi Cazorla has been linked with a move away from the Emirates in anticipation of some of the new signings.
