Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Favourites To Sign £24 Million Sami Khedira

Arsenal have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign the World Cup winner.

Arsenal are favourites to sign Sami Khedira after moving ahead of their London rivals Chelsea in the race to sign the 27-year-old World Cup winning Germany midfielder, and hope to secure a £23.8 million deal this week according to the London Evening Standard. Sources in Spain suggest Khedira - who missed last night's final after pulling up injured in the warm up - has already agreed a four-year contract worth £152,000-a-week. Chelsea too are interested, and the former Stuttgart man's final decision should become clearer later in the week when he returns to Berlin as part of Germany's World Cup parade. The midfielder is due to go on a three-week break after the celebrations - which are set to take place in front of 500,000 fans - but will be keen to resolve his club future first. It has been reported that Arsenal lodged a £23.8 million bid earlier this month, and Khedira wants to leave Madrid. The Spanish giants are signing Khedira's Germany team-mate Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich, and Khedira has grown disillusioned at the Allianz Arena, where he has just one year left on his contract with no signs of a renewal in sight. Any deal with Arsenal would mean disappointment for Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who brought Khedira to Real from Stuttgart in 2010.
