Reports from caughtoffside suggest that fellow Dutch international; Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be the man to fill Robin Van Persie’s boots.
With yesterday’s news that Robin Van Persie doesn’t intend to extend his Arsenal career, the 28-year-old striker almost certainly seems to be on his way. Buzz has already started regarding a possibe replacement. Early rumours suggest RVP will follow his former teammates Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri to Man City, though a perhaps surprising move to Man Utd shouldn’t be ruled out according to early reports. Of course, destinations further afield are also a distinct possibility, but who will replace him?
Suggestions this morning are that compatriot Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be in line for a move to The Emirates with Arsene Wenger potentially lining up a £17 million bid. Though with Giroud and Podolski already in the bag, is this really likely or just knee-jerk paper talk?
Huntelaar, an out-and-out goal scorer who, despite a quiet European Championships, had an amazingly prolific season for Schalke scoring 48 goals in 47 appearances. Despite Huntelaar’s season long purple patch in the Bundesliga, he still plays second fiddle to Van Persie in the national side, starting the Euros on the bench. And is signing another 28-year-old for £17 million really Arsene’s style?
Because of his contract situation, Arsenal will probably not get value for money from the Van Persie sale and splashing the cash for a third time this transfer window doesn’t wouldn’t be in keeping with Arsenal’s usually prudent transfer policy. With the signing of Giroud, 25, maybe the writing was already on the wall. Giroud isn’t a dissimilar player to Huntelaar, the 6’3” Frenchman is likely to lead the attack and with Wenger favouring one striker flanked by two wide men, his current tactics wouldn’t incorporate them both.
Huntelaar at £17m is also untested in the premier league and before the 2011/12 season his career has stuttered, not really hitting his stride in Italy or Spain. With Bendtner and Chamakh will likely to follow Van Persie out the door, a younger understudy for Giroud would seem more Wenger’s style, however with last seasons last minute signings of Arteta and Benayoun, Huntelaar shouldn’t be ruled out.

Wenger must get rid of Van Persie as soon as possible, this will hopefully allow the Gunners to prepare for the new season with minimun fuss and distraction. Very sad to see Van Persie go!
Is ARSENAL turning into a selling club ? We will never win any thing if this policy of selling our best players year after year continues . Who will go next year.
RVP is a prositute. Down with him. Gunners will deal him a devastating eternal blow.
Kerry.
Usmanov needs to be bought in to give us the cash injection we need , we will keep plodding along every year losing player after player, this has to stop.Kroenke needs to go and let someone that wants to invest in the club, enough is enough , the Walcott deal is only around the corner and then Vermallen, wiltshire Ox,and anyone else that has value. this can’t go on ,the fans need to speak and be heard..
we need a great striker after rvp leave get rid of rvp amd look for one
We can’t keep losing our best players ever year! It seems at the moment, whoever we make captain (our best player, arguably) leaves the club, when a new contract is offered. Van persie is world class and he is that way because of wenger. We stood by him during his injury spells and were very patient. He could show more loyalty to the club and manager that made him as good as he is. He will not be the same player when he leaves arsenal, and won’t be more loved at any club in the world! He’s making a mistake, but there is no loyalty in football any more!
RVP should leave the pleasure for money and focus on playing. With injuries he has been at Arsenal. Can’t he show some appreciation to the club that has made him famous worldwide?
It is not only Van Persie. It is Hopeless wegr and sick Peter Hill wood and other members of the gang who are responsible of destroying Arsenal Gradually. why Weger keeps the best players till the last year of their contract to leave Arsenal in a weak position to negociate with them and let them go cheap. why wenger Kept buying the type pf players we are finding it difficult to get rid of them because they are good for nothing and been paid high salaries for nothing . Arsenal pproblems will be solved by getting rid of Wegrt and replce him withGuardiola
Rvp won’t be good in any other team except arsenal it’s where he belongs
That is very true, I agree with you. I dontr see him fitting in with any other team
let him leave just like nasri fabregas and the others beafor them this is arsenal football club one of the best teams out there most players that leave regret it if wenger brings in a couple more players in the positions like cb holding mid then we will be ok next season in arsen we trust (JUST STOP SELLING OUR BEST PLAYERS)
if RVP doesnt want to sign the new contract then we must let him go. Wenger needs to get players contracts sorted out to prevent this happening every year. Lets get £20 mill for him and sign a quality goalkeeper, centre back and a midfielder. I dont belive we need another forward i would give walcott a go up front with podolski and giroud.
pls pls R.V.P should go who did he thing he his. he spend 8years with arsenal 7years injury then just last season he has a good season when he has problem & a lot of injury arsenal stand by him & now his turning his back on arsenal then hise is talkin about loyalty where is the loyalty that he was talkin about R.V.P i want u to ask u question when u have a problem & injury for the past 7years did arsenal stand by u ? we wich u good luck no body is bigger than a club i knw arsenal will sign one or two three player in the position that are important
The club is more important than the player anyway, in this case, it’s RVP. It’s his choice whether he wants to leave or not, but RVP must realise that Arsenal made him who he is now – a prolific striker. We sold Fabregas and Nasri last year. Result: 3rd place. Let Giroud and Podolski show their potential, because maybe they’re the one’s (plus two more possible signings) that could end our trophyless run. Yes, RVP did play a major role in winning us a lot of games last season, but did he win us any silverware? No. Wenger needs to take a risk and re-build this Arsenal team, especially with the money we could get if RVP does leave (which is extremely likely now) I admire RVP a lor, but in Arsene, we trust.
come mr ley van the go and get replacment you got the moeny
i quite understand why rvp want 2 leave n i don’t so much blame him, but there is no point keeping a player against his wish, if he doesn’t want 2 stay they shld sell him n look 4 a good replacement. papiss cisse of newcastle utd in my own view ‘ll be an ideal replacement.a club like arsenal is far better than a single player. gunners 4 life.
a club like arsenal is bigger dan a single player. i quite understand why rvp doesn’t want 2 stay n i don’t blame him. but if he still insist on leaving, he shld be allowed 2 leave n use d money 2 get good replacement. in my own view papiss cisse of newcastle utd ‘ll be an ideal replacement 4 rvp. gunners 4 life.
if RVP leave arsenal how do u know the next important man leave gunners.by this policy we can’t get the cup.pleas sign best talented professionals to the club.
if rvp wants to go say by guys look at all the players that left bar the man city lot all say they regreted it the others are on to much money to care pappis cisse dont fit our style let barn door go and cham there both 2nd rate look at our defence we need a left and right back and the back up for verma and kosc are not all that either please some one buy a club that has all the bones in place and spend on a defence and a out and out striker we have the rest in spades better ground, training facilities, support,we could fill our ground every game com on you gunners
Please!!!!!!! What is going on with the signing of Santi Cazola, we’re still waiting to see our man in Gunners color since Monday but uptill this moment all we are hearing is that the deal is a done deal and when when you are reading on the web or even news papers about Arsenal signing all you will see or hear is Giroud &Podoski.
