Whilst all the talk at the Emirates continues to be dominated by Robin Van Persie, and where he will be plying his trade next season, it appears Arsene Wenger is operating under the radar to try and sign another forward, after successfully adding Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to his ranks earlier in the summer. Kevin Mirallas is the man Arsenal have been credited with an interest in, according to the Daily Mail, who report that the Belgian forward has caught the eye of Wenger, having finished last season as the Greek Super League Top Scorer and scooping the Player of the Year award for Greek Champions Olympiakos.
With the outcome of the Van Persie transfer saga expected to reach its conclusion over the coming few weeks, Mirallas’ potential move is perhaps on standby, as should no club meet the valuation for the Dutchman, it is unlikely Wenger would look to add to an already inflated frontline. However should RVP leave, Mirallas could prove to be an affordable, quality signing, and would surely add more of a threat than current benchwarmer Marouane Chamakh.
Moreover should the ongoing contract discussions surrounding England’s Theo Walcott breakdown or stall, Mirallas could also be used to slot into the wide position, making him an attractive proposition. This versatility is appealing to Wenger who will be looking to reinforce this area of the field too given a non-existent season for South Korean Park Chu Young.
But the Gunner’s aren’t the only ones harbouring ambition of a swoop for the24 year old. One of the clubs interested is CSKA Moscow, who have already had a £5 million bid rejected earlier in the summer and are likely to come back in for the striker. The Belgian has featured for his country 27 times since his first cap in 2007 and since his arrival at Olympiakos has scored 34 goals in only 52 appearances. This respectable record has led to him being coveted by many clubs across Europe, and without doubt, Arsenal will face competition if they want to land him.
