Arsenal Transfer News: Luis Suarez Will Cost £55 Million

Mirror. Yesterday, we told you Gunner's manager Arsene Wenger was prepared to dig his heels in and wait to see the outcome of what has become a bitter contractual dispute between the striker and Liverpool. Arsenal have seen their most recent offer of £40 million and £1 for the Uruguayan rejected by the Merseyside club, and they, along with Suarez's representatives, believe that figure triggers the 26-year-old's release clause. But Liverpool countered that the offer the Gunner's made merely forced them to notify Suarez of the situation. The forward's representatives threatened to get the Premier League involved and take the Reds to arbitration over the disagreement, but have now dropped those threats after realising Suarez's contract clearly states the Anfield outfit have no obligation to sell him at ANY price. And with the former Ajax star still under contract for another three years, Liverpool and manager Brendan Rodgers are determined to keep hold of their prized asset unless their valuations are met. Rodgers recently claimed that he thinks Suarez is worth just as much as Edinson Cavani, who has completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain in a £55 million deal. And that could be the fee Arsenal have to stump up if they want to sign the striker this summer.
