Eto'o revealed in 2013 that he was 'hours away' from signing for The Gunners in 2000 from Real Madrid. The Cameroon International was persuaded to reject Arsenal in favour of Real Mallorca, whom he had just had a loan spell with the previous season.

After four further years of progression in Spain, Barcelona signed Eto'o in 2004. It was in Catalonia where Eto'o forged a reputation as one of football's most prolific finishers, scoring 129 goals in just 201 games. He went on to win the Champions League three times as well as four league titles in a glittering career.
