Arsenal Transfers: 5 Big Name Signings Needed If Take-Over Goes Through

rumours surrounding a take-over bid from an unknown Qatari consortium heating up, Arsenal face what could be seen as one of the toughest last stretches to the end of the season. It's been a season that sees manager, Arsene Wenger€™s side lying fifth on the EPL log standings-2 places and seven points beneath their North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur and an astounding 24 points behind log leaders Manchester United. The race for the Premier League title has long slipped the grasp of the Gunners who now face a battle for the fourth and final Champions League spot with neighbours Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs. It seems rather bizarre to consume the fact that the 2003-2004 Premiership Champions have been relegated from serious title contenders to seasonal Champions league spot contenders since their amazing 2003-2004 €˜Invincibles€™ season. Many of the Gunners faithful have made no secret of the fact that not qualifying for next season€™s Champion€™s League would be the last step to Arsene Wenger€™s way out of the Emirates. With this said, Liverpool€™s victory over Spurs in the weekend has given Arsene Wenger the belief that his team still stands a chance at grabbing the final Champions league spot from either Tottenham or Chelsea. Should this and the rumours of a take-over (with Arsene Wenger still Manager of Arsenal next season), be the case, Arsenal could be in for a very busy and expensive transfer window this summer. We take a look at some big name signings we believe Arsenal and Arsene Wenger would need make to see Arsenal reclaim their position as serious contenders for silverware.

5. Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama 1 Although rumours have been rife over Alex Song€™s proposed move back to the Emirates, Arsene Wenger has also made it clear that he is an admirer of the Glasgow Celtics midfield general, Victor Wanyama. Besides the obvious fact that Wanyama would most likely come at cheaper price tag than that of Song, the Kenyan midfielder is also four years younger than Song and that would also mean that he would demand a wage with Arsenal€™s current wage structures. Many Arsenal fans would probably wonder how Arsene Wenger€™s scouts failed to unearth a player of Wanyama€™s abilities after Celtic€™s wonder buy of the player for a tiny sum from Belgian side Beerschot in the summer of 2011. Wenger€™s side have been in desperate need of a defensive midfielder since Alex Song€™s summer sale to Barcelona, and Victor Wanyama, who can also play central defence, could be just the type of physical presence Arsenal€™s ball playing midfield could use to fill that easily exploited gap between the back four and the midfield-a position that has also raised heads over Arsenal€™s recent defensive frailties.
