5. Asmir Begovic
Considering the previously inconsistent form of current Arsenal No. 1 Wojciech Szczesny, many thought Wenger would invest in a more mature, proven goalkeeper in the January month. Someone in the mould of Stoke City's excellent Asmir Begovic (though many others were linked*, even Liverpool's Pepe Reina). Wenger was said to have had doubts over his Polish goalkeeper and was considering buying in a replacement to provide competition for, or to replace Szczesny. That failed to happen. Stoke have since signed young goalkeeper Jack Butland from Birmingham City, who has been loaned back to the Championship outfit. That throws up questions regarding the long-term future of Begovic at the Britannia, considering the England international stated he would only move to a club where he is getting regular first-team football.** Perhaps Begovic therefore will pop up as a transfer target in the summer. Though by then, Wenger will still likely have to fend off interest from the likes of Manchester United. Source(s): *
