With speculation rife that Arsenal are closing in on the transfers of Olivier Giroud and Yann M’Vila, and with further reinforcements expected before the start of next season; let’s take a look at the players expected to leave the Emirates this summer.
1. Nicklas Bendtner
The big Danish centre-forward divides opinion among Arsenal fans, but he has struggled to produce for Arsenal in the way he has for his country. It seems as if Arsene Wenger’s patience has finally run out and he’s prepared to sell him this summer. Bendtner has impressed at the Euros with Denmark, scoring two goals in three games; and as such he has attracted the attention of several clubs around Europe. Borussia Dortmund, Benfica and Swansea are all credited with an interest in the striker and it seems a move out of Arsenal is inevitable.
The likely transfer fee: £8 Million
2. Carlos Vela
I personally rated Vela very highly in his time at Arsenal; he scored some magnificent goals for us in the Champions league and I certainly prefer him to Chamakh or Park. Monsieur Wenger is evidently of a different view and therefore sent him out on loan to Real Sociedad last season. Vela had a solid season at Sociedad and settled into Spanish football well- his impressive form leading to Real Sociedad wanting to keep him on a permanent basis. The only hang-up is the different valuations placed on Vela by Arsenal and Sociedad respectively: Sociedad won’t budge from an offer of €3.5 million whereas Wenger wants at least €5 million for a player nearing his prime. It remains to be seen how this story will end, but I believe that Wenger will let go eventually as he doesn’t rate Vela.
The likely transfer fee: £3 million.
