Arsenal Transfers: Gunners Battling Everton For Nastasic

Arsene Wenger asking City to do him a defensive favour.

Having already been snubbed in his attempt to bring Radamel Falcao to the Emirates, Arsene Wenger is no closer to getting the striker he needs to bring in to cover the injury to Olivier Giroud. But he might well be a step closer to bringing in equally much needed defensive reinforcements, as he battles Everton for the loan of Man City's Matija Nastasic. https://twitter.com/JamesOlley/status/506356011163459584 The Serbian centre-back was the subject of interest from North London rivals Spurs, with those reports suggesting that Man City would be happier to send him to White Hart Lane rather than to a direct divisional rival. And according to The Guardian, City want to sell the player, rather than loan him, and are looking to recoup as much of the £12m he cost back in 2012. At the minute, Arsenal only have Koscielny, Mertesacker and Calum Chambers as their available centre-backs after Thomas Vermaelen opted to join Barcelona, and Nastasic would fit the bill of a young, talented player to cover the first-team and challenge for a starting spot. Everton fans meanwhile woke up to suggestions that they were on the verge of signing Ryan Shawcross from Stoke, but with the Potters' valuation too high that won't be happening. If they can get him in on loan, that would surely suit them better than a permanent deal. Do you think Arsenal should be signing Nastasic? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
