Arsenal Transfers: Gunners Confirm Deal For "Risk" Chambers

Arsenal have completed the signing of Southampton defender Calum Chambers, who makes the switch to the Emirates for £16 million after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical with Arsene Wenger's side. The Gunners confirmed the deal on their website on Monday afternoon, even after manager Arsene Wenger hinted that the transfer of the player was a 'risk' on his club's part. Wenger, according to the Express, stated prior to the conclusion of the deal: "He hasn't played many games, no, but the English players on the market in England are very expensive and at the end of the day I was ready to take a gamble because he is a player for the future." Chambers is however delighted with the move following its conclusion. He told the Arsenal site: "I am so happy to be signing for Arsenal. They are a team I have much admired for their playing style, and a team who have been one of the top sides in Europe for many years. I'm looking forward to joining up with my new team-mates today and beginning preparation for the season ahead." Southampton fans will undoubtedly be shocked at their club's summer transfer moves, as they have now sold five members of their first team squad to rival Premier League clubs, with more departures in the pipeline too. The Saints have offloaded Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren to Liverpool, with Jay Rodriguez also rumoured to follow, whilst Luke Shaw has moved to Manchester United. The Chambers transfer takes Southampton's transfer income to around £92 million this summer, but with only Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic coming in as replacements so far, the Southampton exodus is a worry.
