Along with Diame, Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Barcelona's out-of-sorts striker David Villa back in January, and Wenger made repeated efforts to sign the player both permanently and on a loan basis - but both efforts failed to come to light when Barcelona refused to sell, in spite of threats by the player that he could force through a move himself. Now, according to the
Mirror, Wenger has at last washed his hands of the whole affair and won't be making any repeated effort to sign the star this summer.
Likelihood? Reports suggest Villa is still keen to force a move away from Barcelona in order to revive his career ahead of next year's World Cup, but the Arsenal boat has surely now sailed.
