Arsenal Transfers: Wenger Fails in Klose Loan Bid

Despite the assumption that Arsene Wenger's earlier assertion that he was intent on signing at least one player meant precisely that he was only going after one player, in Kim Kallstrom, it looks like the manager was working on far more potential deals than initially suspected. Quickly after the news broke that Wenger had seen a loan bid for Salomon Kalou rejected by Lille, who prefered a permanent deal for the former Chelsea man, Sky Sports News have also confirmed that Lazio have rebuffed an attempt to sign German striker Miroslav Klose on loan until the end of the season. Klose might seem like an odd choice, given his age, but his direct play and his form in front of goal would make him a strong candidate to play in front of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla. Wenger's striking options are painfully limited at the minute, with Yaya Sanogo and Lukas Podolski both prone to injury, Bendtner unfancied and only Olivier Giroud as a viable option to start most games on his own, and more options would he heartily welcomed. Earlier theories had suggested Wenger would be concentrating solely on boosting his midfield options with Aaron Ramsey ruled out by injury and Flamini unavailable thanks to suspension, but it seems that his intent is to also attempt to get another man in for his attacking pool. So what next? Will we see another loan bid for Alvaro Montara from Real Madrid, or perhaps Demba Ba? Share your own thoughts below in the comments thread.
