New Arsenal signings Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla make their debuts against Sunderland today in The Gunners’ Premier League opener at the Emirates. Both men start alongside wingers Gervinho and Theo Walcott but there is no place for Arsenal’s other new signing Olivier Giroud.
There is also no place in the starting line-up for possibly Barcelona bound Alex Song. Instead it is Abou Diaby and Mikkel Arteta in centre of midfield.
At the back, Szczesny stars in goal with a back four of Carl Jenkinson, Per Mertesacker, new skipper Thomas Vermaelen and Kieron Gibbs.
For the visitors, Sunderland’s only new debutant in the starting line-up is defender Carlos Cuellar who made a free transfer move from manager Martin O’Neill’s former club Aston Villa. The Black Cats boss has decided that Sunderland’s other free transfer signing Louis Saha will take a place on the bench with striker Frazier Campbell preferred, with Stephane Sessegnon likely to be tucked in just behind the forward.
Here’s the starting line-up for today’s game;
Arsenal: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Cazorla, Diaby, Arteta, Walcott, Podolski, Gervinho.
Subs: Mannone, Santos, Djourou, Ramsey, Coquelin, Arshavin, Giroud
Sunderland: Mignolet, Gardner, Richardson, O’Shea, Cuellar, Larsson, McClean, Cattermole, Colback, Sessegnon, Campbell.
