Aston Villa 0-2 Spurs: 5 Key Things We Learned

Tottenham Hotspur came away from Villa Park on Sunday with a 2-0 victory that puts them back in amongst the front runners in the Premier League table. The Lilywhites are now in fifth position, three points off the the summit and leaders Arsenal, after goals from Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado earned them the vital three points. It was a huge boost to Spurs and a much improved performance following the dire 3-0 home defeat to London rivals West Ham United prior to the international break, but Villa showed enough to not come away too disheartened and the return of Christian Benteke was a massive positive for the Midlands team. On that note, here are five key things we learned when Spurs won 2-0 at Villa Park...

5. Everything Is Going Right For Andros Townsend

It seems like everything is going right for Andros Townsend at the moment. Following the international break in which the young winger made his debut and earned his first two senior international caps, scoring, earning a Man of the Match award and helping his country to qualify for next year's World Cup in Brazil, Townsend put in a fantastic performance for his club. Townsend scored the opener - his first for Spurs in the Premier League - to set Spurs on the way to victory with the kind of luck that only comes to players on such a good run of form. He cut inside on the edge of the Aston Villa box and sent an in-swinging cross towards Roberto Soldado and Lewis Holtby which missed everyone and found its way in to the back of the net. He went on to terrorise the Villa defence - particularly in the second half - and could have scored another couple if it wasn't for some good goalkeeping and slight inaccuracies in his aim and his efforts earned him the Man of the Match award. Dare I say it; He's having the same kind of rich run of form and luck that a certain Welshman had last season.
