Aston Villa Transfer News: Shock Sergio Canales Bid Made

The attacking midfielder only joined Real Sociedad in January.

According to Sky Sports News, Aston Villa have made a shock bid for Real Sociedad's Sergio Canales. The attacking midfielder only joined the La Liga side from Valencia in the January transfer window but Villa are willing to test the Spaniard's resolve to hang on to the former Real Madrid star. The Villans have a long-standing interest in Canales and were keen on him during his days with Madrid, attempting to take him on loan in the summer of 2011. However, they were snubbed by the former Spain U-21 international, who instead elected to join Valencia on loan before making his stay at the Mestalla permanent in 2012. However, he fell down the pecking order with The Bats after the arrival of new coach Juan Antonio Pizzi and joined Sociedad in the last winter transfer window. He scored two La Liga goals and Villa manager Paul Lambert is keen to bring him in to add some cutting edge to his attack. Canales has struggled with injuries for much of his career but has shone when fit, helping Sociedad to a shock 4-2 win over Real Madrid on Sunday evening, coming on as a second half substitute. Villa have started the season well and are undefeated after three games, and Lambert will be hoping the Spanish youth prospect can help his team push on this term. Would you be happy with the signature of Canales? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
