5. Porto 3-0 Monaco (2004)
This match is significant for one reason in particular. This match marked the birth of Jose Mourinho, the crowning moment in his young career which drew attention world wide. With teams like Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich knocking around it seems almost implausible today that Porto could ever go on to win a champions league but with The Special One at the helm anything is possible. Porto didnt just win the tournament; they won it in dominant fashion. Coming runners up in a group with Real Madrid they then went on to knock out Lyon, Deportivo and most notably Manchester United en-route to the final. However Mourinho was not the only reason this team managed to achieve the successes that they did, a host of Portuguese stars like Pedro Mendes, Deco and Carvalho among others all played their part in crowning Porto kings of Europe. Porto have not since come close to replicating their success in 2004, despite going on to win the Europa League in 2011 under Andre Villa Boas.
