Borussia Dortmund vs Arsenal: Player Ratings

Aaron Ramsey's close range header kept Arsenal top of Champions League Group F with a famous win at Borussia Dortmund. It was the first time in the history of the competition that a Premier League team tasted victory at the Westfalenstadion. This remarkable achievement against last season's Champions League runners up lays down a marker across Europe that the Gunners are a forced to be reckoned with. Bearing that in mind, here are out players ratings for both Dortmund and Arsenal:

Borussia Dortmund

Roman Weidenfeller: Had nothing to do first half, but beaten from close range by Ramsey after the break. Great save from Welshman later on, though flapped at set plays and clattered Kosicleny at one. Needs to do better if he's to fulfil World Cup ambitions. 5/10. Kevin Grosskreutz: Overlapped with Kuba well as always a willing runner up from fullback. For all his excellent attacking instincts, Giroud got up ahead of Grosskreutz for the Arsenal winner. 5/10. Neven Subotic: Hooked a knocked down free kick just wide in first half. Clean sheet ruined after great work for an hour. 5.5/10. Sokratis Papastathopoulos: Marshalled Giroud well at first, but that was not enough on the night. Hummels may have made the difference if fit. 5.5/10. Marcel Schmelzer: Tried his luck from range on several occasions. An average display and Marcell Jansen may be pushing him hard for a spot in the Germany squad. 5/10. Click on next for the rest of the Dortmund team including subs.
