Step forward twenty-two year old Lizzie Armistead, who quelled the worries of a nation and kick-started Britain€™s record-breaking medal haul with silver in the women€™s road race event, supported by a team that included 2008€™s road race gold medallist, Nicole Cooke. With her medal supplemented by an additional silver medal in the British National Road Race Championships and a win in the inaugural women€™s edition of the Gent-Wevelgem event in Belgium, Armitstead seems set to play a continued part in the British dominance of cycling in years to come.
