Cardiff City New Manager: 5 Men To Replace Malky Mackay

5. Dave Jones

Any reappointment of Mackay's predecessor Jones has an element of back to the future about it. Cardiff were in essence choke artists under him. That might not be the nicest way of describing their desperate bid to get into the Premier League, but the truth hurts. Jones, 57, does indeed have unfinished business in the Welsh capital, but he will live in the shadow of Mackay should he return €“ for the Scot achieved what the Scouser could not. Since ending a six-year stint with the Bluebirds he has done little to distinguish himself either. Although Jones's CV contains a promotion with Sheffield Wednesday from League One, most of the hard yards getting out of the third tier were done by Gary Megson. Following that promotion there's been precious little cheer at Hillsborough. Keeping the Owls in the Championship last term was the minimum required, but Jones then embarked upon a mystifying transfer policy of signing young unknown forwards from European backwaters. He paid for poor results €“ and purchasing Atdhe Nuhiu and loaning in Andelko Savic €“ with his job. For all these recent shortcomings, however, Jones does possess Premier League experience as he managed both Southampton and Wolves in the top flight albeit some time ago.
