Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off as Chelsea struggled to a draw against a very impressive Swansea City side. Oscar's free-kick put the Blues ahead before Andre Ayew made a mockery of John Terry, as a sublime moment of skill allowed the Ghanian to stab a close-range equaliser after Courtois had brilliantly kept out Bafetimbi Gomis's header. Federico Fernandez deflected Willian's cross over his own keeper's head to restore Chelsea's lead before the home side's big Belgian stopper found himself last man and brought down Gomis with a high foot. New signing Asmir Begovic, who replaced the red carded Coutois in goal, failed to stop Gomis' precise spot-kick. Gomis, who played like a man possessed for most of the evening, then had a goal disallowed for offside as Garry Monk's men tried to take advantage of their extra man. Jefferson Montero, who was excellent throughout having, then forced a fine save from Begovic. Jose Mourinho's failure to broker a deal to sign a first team calibre play for Chelsea was evident at Stamford Bridge, as the home side huffed and puffed but failed to blow the Swansea house down. The champions contributed to a high-tempo, entertaining game but did not look like a side that won the league by eight points last season. The away side, in all fairness, actually did enough to inflict a second home Barclays Premier League defeat on Mourinho. Swans had enough chances after Courtois' red but Begovic kept them at bay, while ukasz Fabiaski wasn't overly busy. It wouldn't be a surprise to see The Blues splash the cash on a couple of marquee signings before the transfer window slams shut.
