Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Deny Cash-Plus Player Bid For Wayne Rooney

BBC. Earlier today, it was widely reported that the Blues had offered one of either Juan Mata or David Luis as part of the bid for the unsettled England star, 27. However, Chelsea released a statement earlier on today which read:

"Chelsea can confirm that yesterday it made a written offer to Manchester United for the transfer of Wayne Rooney. "Although the terms of that offer are confidential, for the avoidance of doubt and contrary to what is apparently being briefed to the press in Sydney, the proposed purchase does not include the transfer or loan of any players from Chelsea to Manchester United."
Rooney has reiterated his desire to leave United this summer after new manager David Moyes admitted that the player was no longer the club's No.1 striker. The Scot said last week:
"Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him."
Rooney has made it quite clear that with a World Cup year coming up, he will not settle for playing second fiddle to Robin van Persie, nor is he happy with playing a squad-rotation role at the club. In addition, Rooney is said to be reluctant over a move abroad, meaning Chelsea or even Arsenal are his next likely destinations. United have publicly stated the player is NOT for sale but Rooney could now hand in his second written transfer request in three years to force through an exit from Old Trafford. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho this week confirmed his admiration in the former Everton star while attacker Eden Hazard admitted bringing the United striker to Stamford Bridge would be €œbrilliant€.
