Chelsea Transfer News: Nani's Move To Stamford Bridge Unlikely?

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson quashes Nani contract speculation and insists he is "needed" at Old Trafford.

Mirror. Nani has not featured for United since November 3rd and has been sidelined by injury since then, and has threatened to walk away from the club on a free when his current contract expires in 18 months. He has become a £10m January transfer target for Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus since refusing to sign a new deal, but Ferguson said:

€œNani€™s contract isn€™t up until the end of next season €“ and we need him. €œHe offers something different from the other players we have. He€™s got an incredible talent, but, unfortunately, he€™s been injured. €œWe have sent Nani over to Dubai for a break in the hope that it will help him with his recovery. €œI don€™t think we will have him back until the middle of January. He€™s never had a hamstring injury before and this is a bad one. €œBut Nani has got a future here. Why would I want to let him go?€
We reported yesterday that the winger had become Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's top transfer target in January, as he looks to replace Theo Walcott who will either leave the club or switch from a wing to a forward position in the New Year. The news will also disappoint Chelsea, who are seeking more creative options as they look set to replace Frank Lampard, who's contract at Stamford Bridge similarly runs out in the summer.
