Chelsea Transfer News: Willian In Advanced Talks Over £30 Million Move

TeamTalk. The 25-year-old attack minded midfielder had look certain to join the White Hart Lane club earlier on Thursday and was widely reported as undergoing a medical and finalising talks over a five-year contract. However the Blues, who have been quieter in the transfer window under the second spell of manager Jose Mourinho than many would have expected, look to have snatched Willian under the noses of their London rivals. If Willian does end up at Chelsea it would put further doubts over the future of Spanish midfielder Juan Mata. Despite being one of the Blues' most important players last season he has regularly been linked with a move away from the club since Mourinho arrived in London and recently has been spoken about as a possible makeweight in Chelsea's pursuit of Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney. Chelsea have already made two offers for Rooney this summer, with reports claiming that Mata had already been offered as part of a potential deal. David Moyes' Manchester United are determined not to tell Rooney to a Premier League rival, though with complications over signing a new playmaking midfielder (both Barca stars Thiago and Cesc Fabregas were pursued, the former joining Bayern Munich instead and the latter likely staying at the Nou Camp... and a bid for Everton's Fellaini was turned down earlier this week), the possible acquisition of Mata may make the move appealing. For Spurs it would be a massive blow to manager Andre Villas-Boas who had been hoping to sign the player ahead of likely losing Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
