Chelsea Transfers: £40 Million Luis Suarez Bid Coming?

Mirror. Premier League rivals Arsenal have already seen a £30 million offer knocked back by the Merseyside club, but Chelsea are ready to test Liverpool's resolve not to sell the Uruguayan by upping the bidding. Suarez has a clause inserted in his Anfield contract that forces Liverpool to listen to offers of £40 million-plus, but they do not have to sell at that price. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has the financial firepower to back Mourinho's pursuit of the South American, who will sit out the beginning of next season following his 10-match ban for biting Blues defender Branislav Ivanovic toward the end of the last campaign. Mourinho is keen to bring in a top-class striker after the club missed out on the likes of Neymar, Hulk, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani, and the Portuguese manager has now switched his attentions to Suarez. Today, Suarez' agent Pere Guardiola reiterated the Uruguayan's desire to play for a Champions League club. Liverpool finised 7th last term and won't even contest the Europa League next season. The Reds are clearly determined however not to sell another of their prized assets to Chelsea, having already caved in to their £50 million bid for Fernando Torres two-and-a-half years ago. And it would take a similarly large bid to land Suarez, though Chelsea are a club who are capable of going above and beyond £40 million to land their target.
