Spanish left-back Asier Del Horno was signed due to
Mourinho's first failed attempt to lure Ashley Cole to Stamford Bridge. So really he proved only to be a stop gap, as Ashley Cole was signed a season after. With 34 appearances in all competitions, Del Horno played a considerable amount in Chelsea's League winning campaign. Yet many Chelsea fans may not recall the Spanish's season in London. Del Horno was an okay player but never really settled in England, playing only in Spain since leaving Chelsea in 2006 following the signing of Ashley Cole.
