Everton Transfers: Martinez Working On Lukaku AND Two More

Toffees boss welcomes Besic and admits he needs three more attackers.

With rumours that Everton are on the verge of completing the signing of Chelsea's unfairly unwanted Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku for a massive £24m - finally putting to bed accusations that they've got absolutely no money and everyone should pity them - boss Roberto Martinez has spoken to Sky Sports News to confirm that his spending spree would not end there. The Toffees have already signed Gareth Barry who impressed on loan from Man City last season, despite his advancing age, and yesterday confirmed that a deal had been done to bring Ferencvarosi defensive midfielder Muhamed Besic in to the club for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.5m, strengthening the foundation of their midfield, with questions marks over the fitness of Darron Gibson. Martinez spoke in glowing terms of his new midfielder, praising his technical ability and range of passing (which is presumably more varied than the "long and short" he clarified with) and stating that it was Bosnia's impressive World Cup outing against Argentina that convinced him that Besic was of the right calibre for his side. Crucially, he also went on to state that the club are currently working on three attacking players. Without expressly naming Romelu Lukaku, Martinez confirmed that he needs more options, even with Ross Barkley signing a new contract at the club, which is understandable considering the paucity of strikers and wingers at the club beyond the first options. The summer has seen the removal of squad players Magaye Gueye and Apostolos Vellios, and Martinez will be looking to fill those spots ahead of the season opener in a matter of weeks.
