Everton Transfers: Toffees Now Favourites To Land Cleverley

Unwanted United man's Villa deal collapsed earlier in the day.

After seeing potential moves for Ryan Shawcross and Matija Nastasic evaporate earlier in the day, Everton might well be about to profit from another club's misfortune, as they pounce to try and bring Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley in before the end of the transfer window. According to Sky Sports, that deal would be a season long loan, rather than the £7m move that Villa and Valencia had been linked to earlier in the week. In line with reports, Everton have now been made 4/7 favourites to sign the Englishman. Cleverley had very publicly been made available as part of Louis Van Gaal's extensive unwanted list, alongside Shinji Kagawa, former Everton player Marouane Fellaini and Anderson. And while he hasn't quite lived up to his billing at Manchester United, the player is talented enough to stay in the Premier League, and is exactly the sort of player who would work well in Roberto Martinez's system. He's also played under the manager before, having spent time on loan at Wigan, and is said to be keen on the reunion. Presumably United will be looking for a permanent deal sooner rather than later, but if Everton can pick up the player on loan that would suit their finances, which have been stretched terribly by the signing of Romelu Lukaku earlier in the month. The loan deal would still cost around £2m however, as well as the player's £50,000 a week wages. Would you welcome the signing of Cleverley at Everton?
