Every Player To Score On Their Newcastle Debut In The Premier League

Gini has joined some exalted - and bizarre - company.

Georginio Wijnaldum certainly made the best impression possible at Newcastle United. Just 48 minutes into his Barclays Premier League debut for the Magpies, the £14.5 million summer signing from PSV Eindhoven rose in the Southampton area to meet a delicious Gabriel Obertan cross and power home a header. Signed to add goals to a Toon midfield severely lacking in such an area - Wijnaldum netted 14 times in 33 league games as he captained PSV to the Eredivisie title last season - the 24-year-old Dutchman made the perfect start by delivering on his Newcastle bow. Strangely, however, scoring on Premier League debuts is not something Newcastle United players have done very often since their first appearance in the reformed league in 1993-94. In fact, Wijnaldum is just the seventh player to achieve such a feat. Michael Owen didn't manage it. Demba Ba failed to do so. Heck, even Newcastle's favourite son Alan Shearer couldn't find the back of the net on his Premier League bow for the Magpies. Intriguingly all seven men to have scored on their Premier League debuts did so at St James' Park though - including Wijnaldum. But who are the other six men who complete the list? Which of those six should Wijnaldum look to emulate in the rest of his Newcastle United career? And whose Toon careers should he avoid attempting to replicate going forward? Here's all seven players to score on the Premier League debuts for Newcastle United (starting with the oldest first and working chronologically forward)...
