Arsenal seem to be coming to terms with the 3-5-2 formation that Arsene Wenger started using towards the back end of last season, and a key part of that has been Nacho Monreal.

The left-footed Spaniard has played every minute of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign to date and has helped the Gunners to clean sheets in their last four outings, including a 0-0 draw away at Chelsea which showed resolve thought to be missing from their armoury.

He has collected 38 points over the last four gameweeks - bagging a goal against Brighton and two sets of maximum bonuses, and Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures suggest that run could continue, with low-scoring Swansea City and Everton among their next three matches.

Monreal also represents good value for money. He is the third highest-scoring defender in the game this season and, at £5.4m, is significantly cheaper than other prolific point earners such as Ben Davies (£5.9m) and Antonio Valencia and Cesar Azpilicueta (both £6.6m).
