Fantasy Premier League really is a team game. It is not just defined by the big-scoring forwards, but also by those bargains who steadily stockpile points throughout the season.

At £4.7m, Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles is a steal who can be slotted into a defence with every bit as much effect as a much more expensive counterpart from a top six club.

While Newcastle’s record of two clean sheets out of seven is below the league average, they have only conceded more than one goal on a single occasion - their opening-day defeat to Tottenham - so there is definitely a platform on which they can build regular shutouts.

With three of the division’s worst attacking records to come in Newcastle’s next four games - Southampton, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth (with the other opponent being Burnley), the Magpies have a run of matches in which Lascelles could rack up defensive points.

He is also an asset at the other end of the pitch, being one of only three defenders to score more than once already this season, alongside wing-backs Ben Davies and Marcos Alonso.
