Being a good Fantasy Premier League manager is about being proactive, as well as reactive. If you can identify those players in form who are going to bring in the points, that is great. But there is even more value in predicting hidden gems who are going to come good.

Charlie Austin has not started a league game for Southampton yet this season, featuring five times off the bench and scoring once - the winner against West Ham United in August.

However, with the Saints toothless in front of goal, having found the net only five times in seven matches, it won’t be long until Mauricio Pellegrino turns to the former QPR poacher.

Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long have already had opportunities, returning one goal in seven starts between them, and Southampton really need to find their shooting boots with winnable games against Newcastle, West Brom, Brighton, and Burnley on the horizon.

Picking Austin would be a gamble, as there is no certainty that he will play, but that is what your three substitutes are for. If Pellegrino gives him a chance, the 28-year-old knows where the net is and could prove to be a fantasy masterstroke at the price of only £6.2m.
