News of Sergio Aguero’s injury prompted Fantasy Premier League managers up and down the country into action. How do you replace this guaranteed source of goals and points?

The obvious solution would be to swap the Argentine for his Manchester City teammate, Gabriel Jesus. But there is an alternative which would let you have your cake and eat it.

With Pep Guardiola’s side scoring goals for fun - 17 in their last four league games to be precise - it is imperative that there is Man City representation among your midfielders, as they tend to rack up more assists, as well as goals. Leroy Sane is their main dual threat, with three goals and two assists so far helping him to 37 points, which is more than Jesus.

Aguero’s absence will force Guardiola into changing the shape of his team slightly, and that should give attacking midfielders like Sane even greater freedom to get in the box.

At £8.3m, he is not quite at the top end of the midfielder market, and therefore should leave you with enough cash to replace Aguero with a forward of equal merit; say Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku. With Sane in the team, you can capitalise on City’s goal appetite, and create room for a prolific scorer from another club; hedging your bets in the best way possible.
