Fernando Alonso on Pole for Silverstone British GP

What else could you expect from a British GP? It was a wet and wild day in Silverstone, over 20,000 fans asked to stay away from the track due to waterlogged Car Parks. We had many a surprise from over 700bhp cars trying to put their power down on a swimming pool, and slip sliding away many a time. Fernando Alonso scythed through the puddles to put himself on Pole for the British GP while the fans were disappointed with their British boys. The only saving grace for Jenson Button and Paul Di Resta going out earlier is that they should have more tyre choice for tomorrow if we have a wet race (it's Britain, it's inevitable) Jenson Button was one of the unfortunates, waiting until the end of the Q1 session to pit for a new set of Inters and getting caught out by a Marussia spinning on the pit straight. This caused yellow flags in the final sector meaning Jenson had to slow down and lose his final timed lap to put him out in Q1. He joined the usual suspects in the Caterham's, Marussia's and HRT's. A lot of rain later and Q2 started with everyone going for Wet's (Ferrari attempted Inters and came in rather quickly!). Sure enough, after spins by Schumacher and Alonso, plus a lot of slides from mostly everyone the session was red flagged and stopped with just over 6 minutes remaining. Alonso showed great skill keeping that car out of the wall, he is one hell of a driver. So after an hour of waiting around and doing interviews the Drivers have to put their minds back to racing with 6 minutes remaining in this Q2 session. A few drivers try Inters, but are quickly in for Wets after 1 lap apart from Perez, which is a huge mistake as he drops from 1st to out in those 6 minutes. Di Resta thought he was in for a while, but Alonso still managed to set a quick lap even though he slowed for a yellow flag in the final sector. That may be looked into by the stewards as Di Resta isn't too happy. Vettel scrapes through by the skin of his teeth in tenth. Di Resta pushed out Rosberg before he was pushed out by Alonso, so we've lost a few big drivers so far. Grosjean beaches his Lotus on his final lap, he's already through to Q3 so he'll take no part in that, only 9 in the Top Ten shootout. Also out in this session, both Toro Rosso's, Williams' Bruno Senna and Perez's team-mate Kobayashi. Most people take to the track for the shootout on Inters, and if they don't they come in for them at the end of lap 1. This is so changeable it's unreal, Lewis Hamilton is struggling badly but the old heads are leading the way, Alonso takes pole but gets jumped by Webber. Onto the final lap for all cars and it's looking like experience rules the roost. Schumacher gets himself up to 3rd with a nice lap, Alonso takes pole back from Webber but the Aussie is still on a lap and is only a tenth off, Vettel finishes his lap just before Webber but is only good enough for 4th. Webber comes across the line and is behind Alonso! Ferrari start on Pole, Alonso hustling like only he can with a great lap! Top Ten 1st Alonso (Ferrari) 2nd Webber (Red Bull) 3rd Schumacher (Mercedes) 4th Vettel (Red Bull) 5th Massa (Ferrari) 6th Raikkonen (Lotus) 7th Maldonado (Williams) 8th Hamilton (McLaren) 9th Hulkenberg (Force India) 10th Grosjean (Lotus)
