Florian Thauvin Is The "Perfect Signing" For Newcastle, Believes McClaren

McClaren certainly seems pleased with the latest addition to the NUFC squad.

Steve McClaren has lauded Florian Thauvin as the "perfect signing" for Newcastle United - and believes having a "genuine winger" at the club will allow the Magpies to thrive. Thauvin completed his £14 million move from Marseille on Wednesday - with Remy Cabella moving in the opposite direction on a one-year loan that will likely turn into a permanent deal - and the French winger has signed a five-year contract with the Magpies. And Newcastle's head coach has been effusive in his praise of the 22-year-old, who he believes is one of the "best young players in Europe" and who will "excite" Toon supporters.

Speaking to NUFC.co.uk, McClaren said of the Magpies' new No 20:
"Florian was brought to my attention when I first came to the club. "He is a player the club have been watching for a long time and I am delighted that we have been able to sign him. "Florian will get the fans excited by scoring goals and putting goals on a plate for other people. "He certainly has the potential and capabilities to do that, and we are excited about him coming in."

Having already acquired the services of Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer, McClaren was keen to add an out-and-out winger to his squad, rather than have another playmaker in Cabella, in order to supply crosses into the box for the big Serbian striker to feed off. Thauvin fits the bill, and his "creative talent" can help the Magpies score a greater number of goals, believes McClaren. The Newcastle head coach continued:
"He is a perfect signing for this club - someone who is young, with great potential and is one of the best young players in Europe. He plays in a position which we have been looking for - we have been trying to get a genuine winger in. "He is an exciting, creative talent who can score goals and make assists, and we believe he will have a very bright future at Newcastle. "Florian has represented his country at every youth level, and now he needs to develop and get into the senior French team. Coming here will be a big step for him in doing that."
