Formula One: 7 Reasons This Is Best F1 Season EVER

6. Critics Made to Eat Their Words

The Ferrari was meant to be a dog. Raikkonen did not care. Williams were a shadow of their former selves. The Schumacher experiment had failed. The Red Bulls would dominate, again. Maldonado was not fit to wear a racing suit. This season has thrown up so many surprises, so many people have defied the critics, that it makes enjoyable viewing for the fans. No one can predict what will happen next, not even those paid to do so.

5. Perfecting the DRS

DRS (Drag Reduction System) was introduced last season and by and large was a success, but sometimes it was too effective, and other times it was not effective enough. However, with a season to hone the system, DRS is producing the kind of racing we want to see, giving faster cars that slight edge they need to overcome the aerodynamically difficulties of running in the air of the leading vehicle. Drivers have had to work to secure the overtake, and the tactical battles and defensive manoeuvres make great racing, but the DRS has not been the ticket to overtake that is was at times last season. The one place it did make overtaking too easy was the previous race, Hockenheim, largely because F1 did not race there last year as the German GP alternates between the race in the Forest and Nurburgring.
