Hull City 3-1 Liverpool: Bruce Praises Hull, Rogers Disappointed With Reds

Hull City manager Steve Bruce praised his side after they had recorded a 3-1 win over high-flying Liverpool, the first time in history that they had defeated the Merseyside team. The Tigers provided a brilliant performance to pick up all three points in the clash and shock many in the first home televised game of Hull's season. The result was the perfect way to return to the Premier League scene after a distressing result against Crystal Palace last week, Steve Bruce said:
"The game last week was the most disappointed we've been since the start of the season. It was an important we had a response today and to be fair to them I knew there would be." "You need a game like this sometimes. Thankfully we've played really well on the day and we deserved the win." "Some of them playing today hadn't really played in the Premier League and it gives them the self-belief that they can play in the league as long as they keep performing like this." "The 11 I chose today all performed to the level we've become accustomed to. I don't think it's any fluke sitting in the top half of the Premier League."
Shortly afterwards, Brendan Rogers spoke about his disappointment with his Liverpool side after a poor performance and a shock result. He said:
"Disappointment is an understatement. This was an opportunity for us. We arrived into the game with confidence and belief but we've made too many mistakes with and without the ball." "We lacked quality. We never created enough and we never kept the ball long enough. We needed to show more quality and penetrate." "We had the chance to go 2-1 up but McGregor hasn't had to make a lot of saves and we've been a team that has created a lot of chances this season."
Rogers went on to talk about the problems Liverpool had had defensively in recent weeks after conceding six goals in just two games. He said:
"We've had to change a lot. The only stability we've had is the goalkeeper. It hasn't helped us and in our last two games we've conceded six goals. We need to be much, much better than that."
Hull will be looking to achieve a similar result on Wednesday when they travel to Arsenal, while Liverpool will be looking for the same sort of response that the Hull players showed today in their clash with Norwich at Anfield.
