Breaking news coming in from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are close to signing Belgian International midfielder Kevin de Bruyne who is currently in London undergoing a medical. The Blues have agreed a deal with his club Genk for a proposed £6.7 million move for the 20 year old who plays as a goal seeking midfielder and winger. The deal is believed to be for 5 and a half years with the player going immediately back on loan to Genk until the end of the season. He is a player Chelsea have reportedly been monitoring even before manager Andre Villas-Boas was hired as manager last year.

de Bruyne has played 77 times professionally in Belgium for Genk where he has been his whole career, scoring 12 times. He made his full debut for the Belgium national side at the age of just 18 during a friendly against Finland in Turku.

He actually has ties to London already and could have played for England before he made the decision to play for Belgium. His mother was English and was born in Ealing, West London… maybe she was even a Chelsea fan?

Confirmation of the deal is expected soon.

I’m not being funny but this really ain’t the type of player we should be signing. I can’t see him ever reaching the aguero, rooney, mata, silva standard. sorry. we’ve enough youngsters not getting a game. kakuta’s 5 times better than de brune and he keeps getting shipped out.how about Lucas Piazon, his rated as he next kaka and then borini. where will all these players going to play. so you got mata, torres, sturridge, kakuta, de brune, borini, piazon, not to mention drogba and malouda, how can they all play in three positions. and what about, hulk, hazard, william, and this brazilian 19 yr old where all linked with. just concentrate on the quality we have already, and maybe moura. this 19 yr old has already played 10 times 4 brazil’s 1st team.

theres nly one player that would make chelsea tick. Napolis Hamsik, get him at the end of the season. he plays a similar role to modric, cheaper better younger and he can score. he’d fit in perfectly.

I agree with Mitch. I don’t see him as the solution to our midfield crisis. I do however believe his wing play would be a good addition reminiscent of the Damian duff & Arlen robben days that is badly lacking now.

That said, what Chelsea needs is a highly mobile & creative midfield that can readily complement Mata & Ramirez eg Hazard, Lucas Moura, Hamsik et all. Then we need to change from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 & become more forceful. The earlier the better too. This season is running away from us.
