Liverpool 0-1 Southampton: Dejan Lovren Seals Famous Saints Victory At Anfield

Southampton defender Dejan Lovren scored the winning goal early in the second half to end Liverpool's unbeaten run to the season. Artur Boruc was called into action in the first-half, after Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard struck a free-kick which looked goal-bound before the Southampton 'keeper got a hand to his effort. 10 minutes from half-time, Liverpool had a penalty shout after striker Daniel Sturridge was brought down after a challenge from Lovren, and replays have suggested the Merseyside outfit may feel hard done by. The home side ended the first-half the strongest going into the break, but it was Southampton who took the lead in the 53rd minute through Saints centre-back Dejan Lovren. The 24-year old Croatian international headed home from an Adam Lallana corner to put the visitors 1-0 up. Southampton then had the chance to double their advantage, but for Liverpool 'keeper Simon Migonlet who made three saves in quick succession to keep the deficit to just one goal. It was the away team who kept up the pressure with the game petering out, and Saints continued to hold firm to take all three points at Anfield. Liverpool finish the day in second place in the league, while Southampton move up to sixth.
