Liverpool Defender 'Rejects Inter Milan In Favour Of New Contract'

Brendan Rodgers breathes a huge sigh of relief...

Martin Skrtel has committed his future to Liverpool after rejecting a move to Inter Milan. It was rumoured yesterday that Skrtel had turned down a move to the Italian giants, favouring to remain on Merseyside and penning a new contract. Speaking yesterday, his agent, Karel Csonto, told FCInterNews.it:
€œI confess that there were not mere rumours, the interest from Inter was real,€ €œBut then the deal did not go ahead, there was contact made. €œThe player had been thinking about his future and eventually opted to remain at Liverpool. €œAt this time I can say that it is likely .€
It has emerged today that the Slovakian defender has indeed penned a new deal to remain at Anfield, despite branding a previous contract offer from Liverpool as "unacceptable." The news will come as a welcome boost to a Liverpool side looking to keep their best players after last summer when Luis Suarez left for Barcelona. They will undoubtedly looking to add more quality to the squad with more after James Milner and Danny Ings' respective arrivals. In light of the current Raheem Sterling saga, Brendan Rodgers will be encouraged by the fact he won't be losing Liverpool's most experienced defender, even if he does lose their bright English talent. Skrtel has been at Liverpool since 2008, amassing 220 Premier League appearances and scoring 15 goals during that time. Story Source: Tony Barrett, The Times.
