Liverpool News: Raheem Sterling Arrested, Charged With Assault

Team Talk. The 18-year-old midfielder spent last night in a prison cell after being arrested following an incident at around 10.30pm in Page Moss, Huyton, Liverpool. A Merseyside spokesman confirmed the charges, saying:

"Raheem Sterling, 18, of Woolton, was charged with Section 39 common assault. "Sterling was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court today."
The England hopeful was only last week named in Three Lion's manager Roy Hodgson's Under-21 squad to face Scotland next week. Sterling began his career with Queens Park Rangers before joining Liverpool's youth academy in 2010, and made his senior debut for the Reds last year. The youngster has since made 27 senior appearances for the club and is the second-youngest footballer to ever play for the Anfield outfit, behind only club legend Michael Owen. Sterling has featured at every youth level for his country and has also been capped once for the senior side. He excelled for England at the 2011 U-17 World Cup, helping Endland top their qualifying group. He was eligible to play for Jamaica - his country of birth, but opted to play for England, making his debut on the 14 November 2012, starting in a friendly away to Sweden. Last year, the starlet committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new, long-term contract at the club.
