Liverpool simply cannot afford to have another mediocre summer transfer window. Missing out on Champions League qualification will make the Anfield club a considerably less-attractive prospect, so they must be clever in the transfer market this time around, or face falling even further behind their rivals.
Not one of Brendan Rodgers recruits from last summer has had the desired impact that was expected of them, after a £120m spree in the wake of star man-Suarez's departure to Barcelona.
Emre Can would be the only one to take any credit from a bunch of signings who thus far do not look up to the challenge of representing Liverpool F.C.
And perhaps even more disheartening for Liverpool fans this time round; the transfer targets linked so far this summer are probably even more underwhelming than last years.
Having already missed out on Memphis Depay, who plumped for Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal instead, it seems as though Liverpool have set their sights on a set of players who can, at best, help maintain another Europa League finish next campaign.
