Liverpool fans could be set for a nervy summer as reports are emerging in The Sun that Barcelona are chasing Daniel Agger as a possible replacement for Carlos Puyol:
Borussia Dortmund wanted too much money for Mats Hummels, so Liverpool ace Agger and Arsenal’s Vermaelen are in the frame.
La Liga leaders Barcelona sniffed around Agger, 28, in the summer when Manchester City had a £20million bid rejected
Barca’s desire for a centre half willing to play it out from the back has attracted them to the Dane, which could spell danger for Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool fans. Liverpool’s defensive options don’t look that strong ahead of next season with Jamie Carragher retiring and Martin Skrtel not having his best season so far in Red.
The Anfield club probably need a defensive rebuild but you suspect Agger would be at the heart of this, losing him could be a disaster moving forward.
However, Liverpool fans can be reassured that they aren’t going to sell cheap. Manchester City were in for the defender last season and bid in the region of £20 million, as the Sun confirm – a bid which was rejected. So if the Catalan club are hoping to take him away from Anfield, they will probably have to bid upwards of that amount.
A nervy summer could be ahead for Liverpool as they look to keep hold of one of their star assets. The lure of Barcelona could be too much for Agger though.
How big a miss will Agger be? Would the money be useful to invest in other areas? Share your thoughts below.
