Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Target Sporting Winger

Diego Capel Liverpool€™s inconsistent season could see them return to the transfer market again this summer. Reports in The Mirror today are suggesting one of their targets could be Sporting Lisbon€™s Spanish winger Diego Capel. Several clubs in recent months have taken advantage of the financial crisis at Lisbon, with Norwich signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Atheltico Madrid signing Insua. Sporting are strapped for cash and are desperate to raise funds by selling their big assets. Liverpool are seeking to take advantage of the issues at the club by signing the Spanish international Capel. The winger was a graduate of Barcelona€™s famous youth academy and spent many years at Sevilla where his performances earned him two caps. Before moving to Sporting Lisbon he was heavily linked with Tottenham but any move fell through. Now though he could be set to move to the Premier League, with reports quoting a fee in the region of £10 million for the winger, well within Liverpool€™s price range. However it might not be easy going for Liverpool as French club Marseille are also meant to be interested so Liverpool could face stiff competition. With the players price so reasonable, it also seems other clubs might be interested. Is Capel the sort of player Liverpool need? Is a wide player what Liverpool need? Thoughts and comments welcome below.
