Liverpool Transfer News: Rodgers Close To Signing Will Hughes & Kyriakos Papadopoulous?

Liverpool Echo. Schalke have conceded defeat in keeping hold of the highly-rated 21-year-old Papadopoulos this summer after the German club's sporting director Horst Heldt said:

"There are a lot of clubs to take into account. We're going to speak to each other when it takes concrete form."
Liverpool are also well-placed to win the race for Derby's 18-year-old Will Hughes, with Brendan Rodgers poised to lodge a £6 million bid later this week. Hughes has recently come through the youth ranks at Derby and has been capped by the England U-17 and U-21 sides, and has also been on the radar of both Manchester City and United in recent times. Papadopoulous meanwhile is another exciting talent and is the youngest ever player to feature in the Greek League after making his debut for Olympiacos at 15 years and 283 days. The Greek international later moved to Germany where he has made 57 appearances for Schalke, winning the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup in 2011. Like Hughes, Papadopoulous has also been tracked by City in the past. Hughes and Papadopoulous would become Rodgers's seventh and eighth summer signings at Liverpool following the arrivals of Krisztián Adorján, Kolo Touré, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Simon Mignolet and the recent capture on loan of Aly Cissokho.
