Liverpool Transfers: 5 Best & 5 Worst Ever January Deals

5 Best...

5. Martin Skrtel Skrtel Ok, so let's start with the five best. Martin Skrtel may currently find himself out of Liverpool€™s starting line-up, but the Slovakian defender has more than justified his £6 million fee, paid in January 2008, making over 200 appearances for the club. Skrtel was also Liverpool€™s player of the season for 2011/12 and his solid defensive displays were one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise disappointing campaign. He even chipped in with a vital goal in the Carling Cup final as the Reds triumphed at Wembley. If reported interest from his former side Zenit St Peterburg is true then Skrtel should at least command a hefty fee. But with Jamie Carragher set to retire at the end of the season then the 28-year-old should have a role to play at the club for several years yet.
